Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology/National Institute of Heart Diseases, PakistanProject Focus: Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Enhance Existing Center, Educate Teams of Professionals (in country), Educate Individual Professionals (in country), Need MD Professional Support, Need Non-MD Professional Support Project Description: Long-term project to improve pediatric cardiac services at the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology and National Institute of Heart Diseases (AFIC/NIHD) in Pakistan. Providing education and training to all specialists delivering cardiac care to children. 4 trips per year will be made to AFIC/NIHD yearly for an unspecified number of years. The overall goal of the program is to increase the complexity of operations provided by the local team and to initiate a program for neonates and infants.

In Minsk, develop cardiac surgery, anesthesia, post-operative care and interventional cath lab techniques. In Gomel, improve diagnostic capabilities and neonatal preoperative care. The project is cosponsored by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, Chernobyl Children's Project International and a number of Gift of Life programs in the Northeast United States.

Project Focus: Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Treatment of Cardiac Disease (Non-surgical), Provide Disposables/Supplies, Need Disposables/Supplies Project Description: Unique project that pairs the local team with ICHF team to provide surgery only to indigent children of the country. The project is nationwide. Three trips are made yearly with an average of 40 children receiving surgery each trip.

Project Focus: Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Project Description: The mission driving HeartGift is to provide lifesaving heart surgery to disadvantaged children living in developing countries where specialized medical treatment is scarce or nonexistent. We provide one surgery a month, at absolutely no cost to the patient or his/her family. All of our children are brought to Austin, TX for surgery, all are accompanied by one caregiver (usu. the mother), and both the child and the caregiver stay with a bilingual host family for the duration of their stay.
